Porter County Announced Code Yellow

    It can be difficult and time consuming to follow new cases found each day and the total number of cases and deaths in Lake County, Porter and LaPorte Counties in the state of Indiana. From cities to rural towns, people need to stay informed on where COVID-19 is spreading and to understand how it could affect families, commerce, and travel. Here’s a brief run down of each of the Northwest Indiana Region’s 3 Counties. Not a single county in Indiana is Code Blue and several counties are Code Yellow and only 1 county is Code red.

PORTER COUNTY INDIANA:
CODE YELLOW
    In Porter County,  Because of our community commitment to beat back COVID, the Porter County Alert Level is at YELLOW as of Feb 10th 2021. Please don’t let up on your efforts of masking up and social distancing. In Porter County, there were 22 newly reported COVID-19 cases and 1 newly reported COVID-19 deaths on Feb 08, 2021.

LAKE COUNTY INDIANA:
CODE YELLOW
     Lake County has also been changed to Code Yellow.  In Lake County, there were 72 newly reported COVID-19 cases and 3 newly reported COVID-19 deaths on Feb 08, 2021

LAPORTE COUNTY INDIANA:
CODE YELLOW
     LaPorte County has also been changed to Code Yellow as well.  In LaPorte County, there were 16 newly reported COVID-19 cases and 0 newly reported COVID-19 deaths on Feb 08, 2021

CODE YELLOW

CODE YELLOW DESCRIPTION:
     The county has a point score of 1.0 to 1.5 when percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents are combined. There is moderate community spread.
     • All general requirements are in effect
     • No assemblies or activities if social distancing is not feasible.
     • Social gatherings of any kind, indoors or outdoors, are limited to 100 people.
     • Special events can be at 50% capacity as long as attendees can maintain six feet of social distance, wear masks and other mandated measures.
     • Restaurants  can be at full capacity as long as they can maintain six feet of social distancing and mask wearing.
     • Evaluate the source of positive tests, undertake targeted testing, quarantine and isolation
     • Local public health officials, health care providers, elected officials, school leadership and other key local leaders must convene regularly to discuss actions that could be implemented to decrease the spread of COVID in their communities
     • K-12 extracurricular and co-curricular activities may continue. Capacity is limited to 25 percent, in consultation with local health departments. All students and attendees must be socially distanced and wear face coverings
    • Schools can continue all grades in person but increase vigilance in distancing, hand hygiene and masks.
     • Community recreational sports league and tournaments may continue but are limited to participants, support personnel and parents/guardians and their minor children
     • College and professional sports may continue with participants, support personnel and family members. A local health department may approve a plan for fan attendance of up to 25 percent capacity
• School officials should review plans for all extra-curricular activities and assemblies to ensure best mitigation practices are being followed

CODE Orange Description:

    – Social events are limited to 50 persons. (If the county shifts to a Red designation, then the applicable limitation of 25 persons will apply.)
    –  Special events of more than 50 people will need approval from the local County Health Department.
    – Retail establishments limited to 2 persons per 1,000 square foot of retail space with all carts sanitized and shall not exceed two hundred fifty (250) persons in any retail establishment at any time. Retail establishments with 2,000 square feet or less may allow up to five (5) customers at one time.
    – Attendance at winter indoor K-12 extracurricular and cocurricular events is limited to 25% capacity.
     – Sports leagues and tournaments may continue with attendance limited to participants, required personnel and parents/guardians.
     • College and professional sports may continue with participants, support personnel and family members. A local health department may approve a plan for fan attendance of up to 25 percent capacity
    • Capacity in common areas and break rooms should be reduced, and users must be socially distanced.
     – Masks Required.

CODE RED DESCRIPTION:
     – Attendance at winter indoor K-12 extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including IHSAA sports, is limited to participants, support personnel and parents/guardians.
     – Bars, Taverns, Nightclubs, and Restaurants. Local officials should consider limiting hours of operations.
     – Businesses: All Common Areas are Closed.
     – Restaurants: Encouraged to promote online ordering with curbside pick-up.
     – Sports: Attendance is limited to participants, support personnel and parents/guardians/siblings. All non participants required to wear face coverings.
     – Recreational Sports, (same as above)
     – Senior Care Centers: Closed and Cancelled.
     – Hospitals, long-term care facilities and other congregate settings may impose visitation limits.
     – Capacity in common areas and break rooms should be eliminated
     – Masks Required.
     It is recommended that social gatherings (indoors or Outdoors) be cancelled or postponed relative to the County’s Code. If a social gathering cannot be cancelled, the host must ensure social distancing requirements, face coverings, and other sanitation measures are implemented at the site. For any social gathering over the total number for that County, a safety plan must be submitted to the Local Health Department and receive APPROVAL from them BEFORE proceeding.
