LaPorte Winterfest 2022 Announced

     The annual WinterFest, returns in late January with some New Activities. Changes have been made to the Annual Winterfest due to  restrictions in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. There are events available for everyone even though It will look and feel different than in the past. This Annual Event is hosted by the organized by the City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department. 

 The weekend events kick off with Ice Sculpture Demonstrations. The sculptors will be chiseling and picking from 2-5 p.m. Friday, January 28th, 2022 in downtown at La Porte’s Plaza 618. 

Yoga at the Civic will host a FREE class on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 10-11 a.m. in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (use the door at the end of the ramp on Plain Street).  Donations will graciously be accepted to support the La Porte Park and Recreation Department’s Youth Scholarship Program.

The “Snowball Softball” Adult Coed Tournament returns to Lions Field at 9 a.m. Saturday, January 29th, 2022, and will be held come snow or more snow. The double-elimination tournament is limited to the first eight teams to register. NSA coed rules apply. Team awards for first, second and third place and individual awards for first place. The cost is $185 per team. The registration deadline will be Thursday, January 21, at 4 p.m. Turn in rosters & waiver forms to the Park Office (250 Pine Lake Avenue). 

A Ice Fishing Derby  – 6am – 2pm, Blue Heron Inn, Saturday, Jan. 29th
Haul in that big fish or just recall the one that got away! Put on your thermal underwear, cast
those lines, compete for prizes and share your stories at The Blue Heron after the derby.
Registration begins at 5 a.m. at 1110 Lakeside Street, La Porte. Fee is $40. Proceeds from this
event will benefit the De Camp Band of Brothers.

Snowman Contest – FREE 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Kesling Park Walking Trail
Do you want to build a snowman, a snowwoman or snow creature? During WinterFest,  judging will be for the best in three categories: Individual Builder – 12 & under; Individual Builder – 13 & Over; and Family/Group (up to 6 builders). There will even be a Best in SNOW! There is no fee to enter but you must complete an entry form which is available on the website or Park Office. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, January 26.

Glow in the Dark Scavenger Hunt – FREE 5 p.m. Fox Park Amphitheater
Join us for a breath of fresh air while combing the park for glow in the dark clues to complete your assigned riddle. The park will be used as a template for glow in the dark letters when combined will allow you to successfully complete your challenge. Wear your boots, bundle up and bring your flashlight for the return of this fun WinterFest event!

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Sunday, Jan. 30th, 2022
After viewing the ice sculptures, join us at cozy Cummings Lodge from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for  a brisk ride through the beauty of wintry nature while enjoying the majesty of the equine. After a trot through Soldiers Memorial Park, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace. Sponsored by Huber’s Marine
