Patrons viewed the facility like never before by taking a tour behind the scenes.  Among the features of the historical building are the 800 seat auditorium, gym, pool, Memorial Room, caretaker’s apartment, basement and underground tunnels.

Together the YMCA, City of Whiting, and knowledgeable volunteers Dave Dabertin, Frank Vargo, John Hmurovic, Ed Koch and Mark Harbin shared facts and stories about the building’s historical past. Photos were featured that spanned back to the dedication of the building in 1923.

In addition, the City of Whiting held an ‘Historic Flea Market’ giving guests the opportunity to take home a piece of history.  Shoppers viewed the many antique Whiting items such as historic street bricks, street signs, Whiting Park (WP) posts, original bowling lane pieces, etc. that were for sale. All revenue generated from the sale went toward to future City of Whiting Museum fund.
