Washington Park Zoo!

The Washington Park Zoo has two new African lions that will be on display. The  2 ½ year old male and 3 year old female were donated by a rescue zoo in Nevada. The Washington Park Zoo Staff are truly thankful for all of the donations made to the Zoo Society which helped make this acquisition possible.

All of the animals at the Washington Park Zoo act as conservation ambassadors for their wild cousins.  With the addition of the two African lions, they hope to get the message out about the very real risk of extinction of these beautiful creatures. Currently the United States Fish and Wildlife Service list African lions as a threatened species, but increasing human populations in Africa are reducing and fragmenting the lion population.
One of the biggest dangers facing wild lions is retaliation from local African ranchers who kill the lions for preying on their livestock. They hope that through education we can provide a greater understanding and appreciation of the value of all wildlife and wild spaces.

The zoo hosts a party each year during their annual Zoo-B-Q event every August. Tickets for the event include a buffet dinner, silent auction, live animal encounter/show from Silly Safari and more. Advance tickets are required and are on sale now at the zoo office for $15/adult, $10/children ages 3-11, children under 2 are free.

They are constantly introducing new guests like two new wolves they added.  The brother and sister pair were about 4 months old when they arrived in 2016.
Approximately 200 animals call the Washington Park Zoo home.  Hours of operation are 10am to 5pm daily.  Regular admission is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $6 for children ages 3-11, and children under 2 are free.
