The 2020 Organization of the Year goes to Family Express for their continued support for our many programs and events.  They are quick to lend a hand when we reach out to them.  Family Express is committed to providing community service in our county and continue to be a partner with the Parks.

The 2020 Outstanding Park Service Award goes to Park Superintendent Jeremy Sobecki for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the staff, Park Board, Park Foundation, volunteers, and the LaPorte County Parks. Jeremy’s calm approach to situations and issues, allows for the best solutions. It is evident in every day interactions that he treats employees, volunteers, and the public with fairness and kindness. Jeremy is a great communicator and keeps the board up to date on pertinent issues and situations that allows us to provide input when needed and converse intelligently with the public and other key stakeholders.

The 2020 volunteer of the year award goes to Josh Alexander, Custom Earthworks, LLC (Pictured).  Over the past several years Josh has utilized his equipment and time to improve aesthetic appeal and wildlife habitat on the new 20 acres of ground at Luhr County Park.  (read full story here) Removing brush, invasive plants and woody species, making way for prairie plantings and even helping with follow up habitat work years after the initial work.  The partnership we’ve had in the past five years has been incredible and the prairie/sedge meadow at Luhr has become a beautiful addition to Luhr County Park!

Each of these award recipients has shown significant support of the parks and its community as a whole.  On behalf of the staff, our park patrons, and the Park Board, we thank all of our recipients for lending us a helping hand and for their efforts to help provide quality County Parklands.
