The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions for the 17th Annual Hoosier Star Competition. Sponsored by Horizon Bank, NIPSCO, Northwest Health and Duneland Media, the competition is open to amateur singers throughout Indiana and Berrien County, Michigan. Competitors can compete individually or as a duet. Auditions will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 102 G Street, La Porte, on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (CDT) and Sunday, March 20th, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM (CDT).
Contestants are divided into two age groups: Youth Division (17 years old and under) and Adult Division (18 years old and over – at the time of auditions). Ten finalists, five from each age group, will advance to the final event for a chance to win monetary prizes along with the title of “2021 Hoosier Star Winner.”
The ten Hoosier Star finalists will perform along with members of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, September 12th, 2022 at the Civic Auditorium in La Porte. Members of the audience and Judges Panel will choose each age division’s winners based on that evening’s performances. First and second place winners in each division, Youth and Adult, will received $1,000 and $500 respectively.
Audition forms are available at: HOOSIER STAR AUDITIONS. The registration fee is: $20 per person or per duet and requires separate registrations. Contestants are encouraged to pre-register for a guaranteed time slot. Audition applications must be received by March 15th in order to be eligible and to receive a guaranteed time slot. Walk-in auditions will be available at the end of each day.
