As the season changes from warm summer days to crisp and cool temperatures, it’s a great time to tackle some home upgrades. Fall lets you take advantage of the season’s comfortable weather to complete various home improvements before the bitter snow and wind of winter set in. Tackling projects like repairing insulation or preparing your gutters for freezing temperatures will help you save on energy costs and improve the overall comfort and safety of your home. Make sure your property is ready for the changing of the seasons with these crucial home upgrades to complete in the fall.
Clean Gutters
Fall foliage is gorgeous, but it can wreak havoc on your gutters. Clogged gutters prevent proper drainage and can lead to significant water damage, roof damage, siding issues, and other problems. Avoid these issues—and the costly repairs they cause—by checking your gutters and downspouts for debris. Clean out leaves, twigs, and other matter so that the autumn rain and eventual snow melt can drain off your roof properly.
Add Weather Stripping
Another critical fall home upgrade to consider is installing weather stripping. Weather stripping prevents drafts and ensures that your home stays warm when the temperature gets cold. You can install weather stripping around windows and doors for maximum insulation. You can also consider caulking windows to prevent drafty air and keep your home energy efficient.
Install a Home Generator
When freezing temperatures and winter storms come around, you rely on your home’s power to keep you and your family warm, safe, and comfortable. But what happens when that power goes out? The last thing you want is to spend a winter day in a home with no heat or light. Installing a whole-home generator allows you to power your home even if there’s an outage. A backup generator turns on automatically as soon as it senses a power outage, so you never have to worry about surviving without your heater, appliances, or electronic devices.
Inspect Your Home Insulation
With the colder temperatures of winter, you want to ensure that your home is insulated so your family stays warm and comfortable all season long. Proper insulation can significantly reduce energy bills and keep your home cozy. Inspect the existing insulation in your walls and attic and check for signs of wear and tear. If any part of your insulation is too worn down to effectively keep out the cold, be sure to replace it before winter comes around.
