     Becky Mateja Lombardini Won the Porter County Council Race District 1. Former Whiting Basketball star, Becky Mateja, edged the Councilman race against Erik Wagner, in the Democrat First District. Officials report that there was a turnout of 16.5% in Porter County. Wagner (also a political insider) was selected over Mateja in a Democratic Caucus held in March to Replace the late Robert Poparad. This will be Mateja’s first office. More About Becky

     Barbara Regnitz Won the Republican for Porter County Commissioner race District 2 over political insider Mike Brickner. Barbara campaigned as an “outsider” having never been in politics before. She is a retired teacher and a retired financial planner. Mike Brickner has been in the Porter County Council for 8 years, which makes him an “insider.” Barbara campaigned on being Fiscally responsible, conservative and Lowering taxes.       Other Women in Porter County politics that were unopposed in the Primary are Julie Olthoff, State Representative District 9, who has held this position for many years. Julie Giorgi (D) for Porter County Commissioner District 2 was also unopposed. Other women in policitcs include: Toni Downing, Democrat, for Porter County Auditor; Valeri Wasermann (D) for Porter County Assessor; Sue Neff (R) for Porter County Assessor; Lisa Beck (D) is running for State Representative for District 19. 

Lake County also has many women in politics. Lisa Beck (D) is running for State Representative for District 19. Carolyn D. Jackson, is running for State Representative District 2. Patricia S. Boy State Representative Dist. 9 will be running against Dion Bergeron State Representative Dist. 9; Peggy Holinga Katona won Lake County Auditor by a landslide over Eduardo Fontanez. And, Christine Cid has held the Lake County Council District 5 (East Chicago) for many years.
