Everything about Journeyman Distillery is handcrafted, and their decor reflects attention to labor in every way. The original maple factory floors are from the 1800s. They have an original concrete bar made in Grand Rapids, with coordinates etched into the side—to mark this historic and unique location. They’ve used wood from the family barn in central Indiana; wood that was once the flooring for an early 1900s schoolhouse.
They take pride that EK Warren, the original builder of the factory—while being a staunch prohibitionist—would be proud to see his building shining bright. And, their bottles are like their building: steeped in family history that they love to share.
Bill Welter started Journeyman Distillery on Oct. 7th 2011. They produce small batch organic rye whiskey among many other fine spirits at the old Featherbone factory in downtown Three Oaks Michigan. They are big fans of the fine spirits they produce and the fine spirit they sell, Bill likes to think of himself as a pioneer blazing a new trail in the world. Journeymen Distillery is an Organic distillery, they are certified organic because they wanted to support organic growers and support organic products. They purchase grain from Organic farmers all over the Midwest. They Produce small – batch whiskey, which is high quality and a labor of love. They are excited that they are making a product that they are making themselves. They also offer a variety of quality organic spirits such as vodka, bourbon, rye, gin, and rum and they distill, bottle, label, and package each spirit there at the distillery.
Journeyman Distillery is one of few certified organic distilleries in the United States, providing all organic spirits produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, artificial pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, growth hormones, or genetically modified organisms. Certified by MOSA (Midwest Organic Services Association), Journeyman Distillery is committed to providing users with a grain to glass experience paired with savory ingredients to deliver a taste unmatched by other distilleries. Aged in small barrels for increased concentration of flavors, the distiller’s attention to detail appears in every sip.
