Canterbury Summer Theatre presents its final musical of the 2023 season, Honky Tonk Angels, performing July 19-29. The theatre is located at 807 Franklin Street in Michigan City.
Ted Swindley, the creator of Always…Patsy Cline, authored this celebration of the female stars of country.
The production mixes 30 classic country tunes into a hilarious story about three gutsy gals who are determined to better their lives and follow their dreams to Nashville to become the Honky Tonk Angels.
The all-hit song list includes I’ll Fly Away, Stand by Your Man, 9 to 5, Coal Miner’s Daughter, Ode to Billy Joe, These Boots Are Made for Walking, I Will Always Love You and Harper Valley PTA.
Staging and musical direction are by John Berst, who previously helmed John & Jen, Tick, Tick…Boom! and Love, Linda: The Life of Mrs. Cole Porter, for Canterbury.
The cast includes Victoria Hickman, Sophie Stechmann and Jenna Weisbach. Hickman also serves as choreographer.
Scenic design is by Ray Scott Crawford with lighting by Alex Gray. Amber Garitt provides costume design and Annabelle Lamb is production stage manager.
The Canterbury Resident Company is comprised of theatre artists hired from throughout the country, and has produced a season of musicals and plays in downtown Michigan City since 1969.
Canterbury performances are at 2:00 PM on Wednesdays, and Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:00 pm. Regular admission price is $20.00, $18.00 for seniors (62 and above), and $10.00 for students and military.
