 This year’s series Calumet Revisited focuses on the cultural and environmental history of the Calumet Region.  Series’ discussions are at 5p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month from Sept. through May 2020, in Room 265 at Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ), 2400 New York Avenue, Whiting, Indiana.
     Now in its fifth year, the Forum seeks to shed light on the Calumet Region’s rich human history and environmental treasures. The Forum is jointly sponsored by the Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) and CCSJ.   Participants in the upcoming sessions will be treated to the history of the region from the Indiana Dunes to Blue Island and locations in between.
These are the speakers and topics for the season.

Tuesday, September 3rd, Sarah Coulter, director of Calumet Collaborative, on the organization.
     Tuesday, October 8,  Walter Skiba, associate professor of arts and humanities, CCSJ, on the recent history and future plans.
     Tuesday, November 5, John Hmurovic on the Standard Oil refinery explosion and fire in 1955 and the making of the documentary film.
     Tuesday, December 3,  Dr. Katherine Moore Powell, ecohydrologist at the Field Museum, on how climate change.
     Tuesday, January 7,  David Dolak, professor of instruction at Columbia College, on “Unique Geological Story of the Calumet Region.”
     Tuesday, February 4, Dr. Larry McClellan, author and retired dean at Governor State University on the Underground Railroad.
     Tuesday, March 3,  PeggySalazar, executive director, Southeast Environmental Task Force, on pollution concerns on Chicago’s Southeast Side, past and present.
     Tuesday, April 7,John and Diana Trafny, on their book, Gary: Millrats, Politics & US Steel.
     Tuesday, May 5, Madeleine Tudor, an urban anthropologist at the Field Museum, on updates for the proposed Calumet Region Heritage Museum.

     AWLI, established in 1999, is a bi-state, not-for-profit organization and land trust with a mission of protecting and enhancing the Wolf Lake watershed.
     Calumet College of St. Joseph has been a part of Northwest Indiana since 1951 and lies within the Wolf Lake watershed.
