The Art Barn School of Art will launch the first of two 8-week art classes in July, 2024 focused on developing drawing and watercolor skills for older adults of all levels. The first class will meet from 10am-noon on Fridays at the Portage Library branch of PCPLS. The class, taught by Art Barn instructor Suzie Rosso is FREE and open to all community members 65 and over, and is designed to accommodate those of all abilities.
A gentle approach to learning to draw and paint from observation is the focus, in a comfortable, accessible space that fosters conversation and community. All supplies are included, and for those with transportation needs, free bus service will be provided through Porter County Aging and Community Services (PCACS). Registration is now open and classes begin July 29 and run through September 6. A second 8-week session, focusing on acrylic painting, will be held starting in late September at Meridian Woods Community Center in Valparaiso. Registration for this session will be open in July.
Suzie Rosso has taught adults and children how to draw and paint for over 24 years. Her studies included graphic design at Valparaiso University, the American Academy of Art in Chicago, and dozens of workshops throughout the US, France, and Italy. Suzie primarily works from life, including “en plein air,” in oils, watercolor, acrylic, and pastel. Life drawing with models is her favorite way to spend a day. Her guided approach to drawing fundamentals will help even the most pencil-shy students successfully master the basics of drawing.
Space is limited, so please register at arbarnschool.org or by calling 219-462-9009.
This program is presented in partnership with Porter County Public Library System. This activity is supported by the Indiana Arts Commission and made possible by a grant provided by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies in partnership with E.A. Michelson Philanthropy.
