WVLP Gets a NEW Website – Now Streaming Live With 1 Click

In today’s media landscape, many commercial radio stations are owned by large corporations that serve multiple markets with standardized programming. While these stations often provide popular music and national content, they rarely have the flexibility or community focus needed to reflect the unique character, concerns, and interests of a specific town or neighborhood. However, with their new website, WVLP is easily streamed by anyone anywhere in the world, and on any device. The new website was created by volunteer Daniel J. Dunevant.

As a local LPFM (Low Power FM) station, WVLP exists to serve the people of Valparaiso and the surrounding Porter County area. Every program has the opportunity to be created by members of the community, for the community. Rather than relying on syndicated personalities broadcasting from hundreds of miles away, WVLP gives local voices a platform to share stories, information, and experiences that directly affect listeners’ daily lives.

Because its mission is rooted in community service rather than maximizing advertising revenue, WVLP can dedicate airtime to topics that larger stations often overlook. These include local government meetings, school activities, community events, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood initiatives, local artists, independent musicians, and small businesses that form the backbone of Valparaiso’s identity, and now Northwest Indiana’s Identity.

WVLP also serves as a platform for civic engagement. Residents can hear discussions about city planning, local elections, economic development, education, and issues affecting Porter County and Northwest Indiana. By providing access to these conversations, the station encourages greater participation in the community and helps citizens stay connected to the decisions shaping their hometown.

Another advantage of community radio is its ability to showcase local talent. Musicians, authors, educators, historians, students, and community leaders all have opportunities to share their work and perspectives. This creates programming that reflects the culture and diversity of Valparaiso rather than relying solely on nationally syndicated content.

Unlike commercial stations that often follow rigid programming formats designed for broad audiences, WVLP has the flexibility to offer diverse programming that meets the evolving interests of its listeners. Educational programs, cultural discussions, specialty music shows, public affairs, health information, and volunteer-produced content all contribute to a richer listening experience that reflects the community’s unique identity.

Perhaps most importantly, WVLP creates a sense of belonging. Listeners hear familiar voices, recognize local landmarks being discussed, and learn about events happening just around the corner. The station becomes more than entertainment—it becomes a gathering place where neighbors connect, organizations collaborate, and community members feel represented.
