Annual Winterfest in LaPorte Indiana

     The 2020 WinterFest is organized by the LaPorte Park and Recreation Department.

     Friday, January 24, 2020: Ice Sculpture Demonstrations FREE! 47 p.m. Plaza 618, Ice, ice, baby! Come and view creative sculptors bring a block of ice to life under the lights. The chiseling and picking is set to begin at 4 p.m. with viewing available during regular park hours (sunrise10 p.m.) until Mother Nature takes them away. Interested in sponsoring a block of ice?      Friday, January 24, 2020: Family Game Night FREE! 67:30p.m. Cummings Lodge. Its been so busy as of late, all we do is run, its time for us to take a break, and have a little fun. Take your phones and tablets and put them out of sight, and get ready for a fun surprise, because tonight is Family Night! Bring your dinner and your favorite game and share in provided popcorn and punch in cozy Cummings Lodge for a fun, free family night.

     Saturday, January 25, 2020: Family Ceramics 9 a.m.Noon Civic Auditorium – Decorate a project in time for Valentines Day, Groundhog Day, Lincolns Birthday or any other holiday celebrated in late winter. This entertaining activity provides a great opportunity for a family outing. Please call the Park office at 2193269600 to register with your credit card.

     Saturday, January 25, 2020:Snowball Softball Adult Coed Tournament 9 a.m. Lions Field. Dashing through the snow, turning double plays! Get your team together for our version of the hot stoveleague. Doubleelimination tournament; limited to the first eight teams to register. Preregistration required. Cost is $165 per team.

     Saturday, January 25, 2020: Breakfast with the Birds FREE! 9:3011 a.m. Luhr County Park Nature Center. Come enjoy breakfast treats while watching birds grab a bite at the bird feeders.      Saturday, January 25, 2020 Wheel Throwing Pottery Demonstration FREE! Noon1p.m. Civic Auditorium—Lower Level (use Plain Street ramp) The art of wheel throwing is both a therapeutic and expressive way to create pottery. Join Alayna Bublitz, a local artist who teaches the La Porte Park and Recreation Departments pottery classes, while she demonstrates her talent and answers questions from those in attendance. Individuals will have the opportunity to sit at a wheel and get their hands dirty! Maybe you will hear Unchained Melodyplaying in the background!

     Saturday, January 25, 2020 11am, Parties on the Gogh, Painting comes with all the supplies needed and step-by-step instructions. This class is offered to participants who are 12 years old and older.  The cost for this event is $35. Pre-payment is required to secure your spot. Please email to reserve your spot. She will send you an invoice for payment. Cash or check will be accepted at the Park and Recreation office, 250 Pine Lake Avenue. This event will fill up quickly so reserve your spot NOW!!
    Saturday, January 25th, 2020: 1pm, Community Snow Angel event! How many people can we join in one place to make snow angels simultaneously? Let’s find out! We will be meeting behind Cummings Lodge at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25. Tell your neighbors! Bring a friend! Come one, come all! Bring back your childhood memory of playing in the snow!

     Sunday, January 26, 2020  Cornhole Tournament— Civic Auditorium Gymnasium,  Find a partner and register for the tournament, with prizes awarded to the top three pairs (must be age 21 or older to participate). The registration fee is $50/team or $25/individual. Pool play begins at 1 p.m. followed by single-elimination tournament. Check-in from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Concessions and cash bar available. Register online at, at the Park Office (250 Pine Lake Avenue) or at Post 83 (228 E. Lincolnway).

     Sunday, January 26: 2020  Horse Drawn Wagon Rides FREE! 1:303:30 p.m. Cummings Lodge, Jingle, jingle, jingle. Take a brisk ride through the beauty of wintry nature while enjoying the majesty of the equine. After a trot through Soldiers Memorial Park, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace.
