Winey Beach Cafe Approaches 15 years In Business!

by Tim Bandura

With the full onset of winter, and if a tropical vacation is not on the schedule for you this year, a trip to Downtown Whiting’s Winey Beach Café may, at the very least, put you in a Florida-state of mind.  With its Floridian inspired menu and drinks, you’re sure to feel like you’ve landed on the beach without leaving the area.

In business since 2005, Winey Beach Café offers what they call “Floribbean (Florida and Caribbean) themed dishes.  Some of these include such warm-weather sounding menu items as jerk chicken, tequila lime shrimp, and crab cakes along with a full complement of south Florida inspired favorites.  Additionally, Winey Beach Café offers traditional fare such as steaks, burgers, and their baked garlic whitefish dinner.  And after dinner you can choose one of the café’s delicious and extraordinary tasting deserts such as chocolate cake or Key Lime Pie and more.

Suffice it to say that the menu of the Winey Beach Café has something on it for everyone’s palette.  And too, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Winey Beach’s colorful array of tropical drinks along with beer and wine from which to choose.

Chef and manager Terri Shebish said her goal is to make their customers feel like a family member.  Terri said this management strategy has paid huge dividends for the business by creating customer loyalty that’s paid back in return visits.  Terri also said she has a loyal staff and credits them for helping create that customer loyalty.

When we asked Terri what she felt was the appeal of the Winey Beach Café in the community, she said,  “Here at the Winey Beach Café we offer something different, something out of the ordinary.  Some of our menu items like jerk chicken and crab cakes aren’t available just everywhere.”  She went on to explain, “All of our food is made to order and made fresh.  Nothing is made in advance.  And we will also be glad to make any special order that our customer’s request.”

Winey Beach Café is located at 1350-119th Street in the heart of Downtown Whiting, right next door to Suncatchers.  Winter hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 5p.m. to 8p.m., and Friday and Saturdays, 5p.m. to 9p.m.  Call them at (219) 659-1466.  Winey Beach Café is also online at wineybeachcafe.net, and on Facebook as Winey Beach Café.
