Whiting Blooms on Garden Walk Sunday July 14th

by Gayle Faulkner Kosalko
The Whiting in Bloom Garden Walk, this Sunday from noon to 4pm, really proves you’re never hindered by space when it comes to creating a tremendous garden.  While Whiting Robertsdale lots are typically only 25 feet wide, with imagination,  vision and TLC you can have an incredible space.  This year’s walk includes six local gardeners, many of whom plant everything from seed or have a big interest in native plantings.   If you ever had a question about the secret of growing vegetables, we have just the lady to ask.  Interested in creating your own whimsical yard art?   We have guys on the walk who excel at it.

“In our community, these gardens aren’t done by landscapers and that’s why each is so very different,” said Gayle Kosalko, Garden Walk Chair for Arts Alive!  “Each is certainly a reflection of the owner’s personality and perception.  The problem is  you’ll want to just sit in each of their patios and not go home.  That’s how inviting and relaxing they are.  Plus gardeners are all ‘birds of a  fushcia’ so there’s always a great deal of flowery exchange going on.”

Bob & Deb Salinas’ deck offers places for bushes, honeysuckle and potted plants.

This year’s walk features the gardens of Judy Mendoza, Beth Bach, Mark and Michelle Chiluski, John Jaroszewski and Scott Walker,  Harry and Laura Aponte and Bob and Deb Salinas.

The Garden Walk began over 30 years ago by Arts Alive! a group dedicated to culture and the arts of the community.    The organization helps fund art projects, music programs, presents exhibits as well as holds classes for both adults and children.

“Designing a garden, maintaining it, building a deck or patio or pond,  architectural pieces or one of a kind piece of yard art which you’ll see on Sunday are all definitely art forms in themselves,” Kosalko added.

Whiting in Bloom Garden Walk tickets will be available the day of the walk beginning at 11:30am at the Immaculate Conception Lourdes Grotto Parking lot, 2015 White Oak Avenue.  The price is $10.  (you will have to drive to each separate garden)
