The City of Valparaiso’s Common Council approved amendments to Chapter 53 of the City’s Municipal Code which concerns the regulation of refuse and recycling collections. This ordinance addresses commercial and residential recycling. The last day of commercial recycling services at your location will be on Friday, December 30, 2022.
Other measures to make their recycling services more sustainable include:
For Residential Recycling:
- Residential RECYCLING will transition to an EVERY OTHER WEEK cycle beginning in January 2023. Trash and recycling customers may go to https://tinyurl.com/ValpoRecycle to view the schedule for 2023. Weeks highlighted in yellow indicate recycling collection weeks for all trash and recycling customers. TRASH collection will remain on a WEEKLY schedule and will not be affected.
- Additional notification will be distributed to customers in their December utility bill, via press release and on our social media.
For COMMERCIAL RECYCLE ONLY Customers:
- In the past, Valparaiso offered recycling only to commercial businesses at no cost. Those that participated will no longer be provided that service and your recycling totes will be pulled before the end of the month. It is not sustainable to continue this service given the volatility of the recycling market.
- If this impacts your business you should have received notification in October and November. Another letter is scheduled for this month. A copy of the notification letter with more information is attached.
If you have additional questions please contact Valparaiso City Services at 219-462-6174.
