United Way’s Day Of Caring 2022

Northwest Indiana – United Way of Porter County is hosting a social distancing version of their Day of Caring volunteer event beginning Friday, August 5th, 2022.

This annual celebration of volunteerism will start with a virtual kick-off breakfast followed by a month of social distancing volunteer opportunities that can be done at home, in the office or in small groups at area nonprofits.

“Area nonprofits need our help now more than ever,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “They have been nimble in adjusting with the times and we want to make sure they are still fully supported in their efforts. One of the ways community can do that is through volunteering.”

Currently, there are 90 projects throughout Northwest Indiana available serving over 50 nonprofits. More than 400 volunteers are needed. Volunteers can choose from activities such as outdoor cleanup, indoor painting, collection drives, donating blood and facial mask making.

Individuals, families, teams, novices and skilled professionals are encouraged to participate. In-person volunteers will be required to follow social distancing government mandates and those set by the nonprofit.

The virtual kick-off breakfast begins at 9 a.m. on Friday, August 5th. Participants are encouraged to grab their favorite breakfast treat and wear their favorite Lived United t-shirt at fairgrounds park.

Kick-off and volunteer registration is required. Additional information about kick-off and volunteer opportunities will be provided to registrants in early August. To register, visit  Project signups begin Tuesday, July 5 at nwivolunteer.org.
