Tips To Keep Your Home Feeling Comfortable This Summer

Tips To Keep Your Home Feeling Comfortable This Summer

As temperatures rise, many homeowners are trying to find ways to stave off the heat indoors. Nothing feels better than moving indoors after a long day out in the sun, but if your home feels as hot inside as it does outside, it won’t provide much relief. Learn how to keep your home feeling more comfortable this summer with these tips to stay cool.

Use Windows Strategically

You might have previously noticed how much cooler a room feels upon walking in after the curtains were drawn all day. This is because the curtains prevent the sunlight from streaming in and increasing surface temperatures and the overall temperature of the room. Keeping curtains closed during the day can significantly improve the temperature of your rooms. And when temperatures drop at night, you can open your windows to let the cool air indoors. Give your air conditioning a break at night and open the windows for some fresh air.

Keep Doors Shut

For the hot days when you just can’t turn the air conditioner off, make sure to keep the doors closed throughout your house. Your air conditioner will cool the smaller, individual rooms more effectively this way. Closing doors will help the cold air circulate around the space more easily, keeping the room cooler.

Inspect Your HVAC System

Ideally, you should schedule an inspection for your HVAC system before the hot weather begins. However, there are smaller inspections that you can make throughout the season to keep it running smoothly. Change your home air filters monthly during the summer—the buildup of dust and debris in your air filters can cause air conditioning to be less effective and puts a strain on your HVAC system. Keep an eye on your energy bills during the summer, too—if your costs are going up but the air conditioning doesn’t seem to be cooling your home, you could have an issue with your HVAC system.

Reinforce Your Insulation

Many homeowners mistakenly think that insulation is only important for keeping your home warm during the winter months. Winter is just one of the many times to use spray foam insulation. Insulation can be just as effective at keeping your home cool during the summer as well. This is due to the heat-resistant properties of spray foam insulation and other materials. Consider reinforcing your current home insulation or spraying areas of your home that aren’t insulated, such as the attic or crawl space.

If your home feels warm, sticky, and uncomfortable, don’t worry, because there are plenty of ways to keep your home feeling comfortable this summer. Use these tips to help your home be a more hospitable place for your family to spend parties, vacation days, and all that summer brings.
