“The New World,” Symphony Concert Set for March 8th

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra presents the third subscription concert of the 2025-26 season at the Holdcraft Performing Arts Center in Michigan City on March 8

La Porte, February 17, 2026 – The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present the third concert of its 53rd season on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 3:00 pm at the Holdcraft Performing Arts Center at 1200 Spring Street in Michigan City. The program, titled “The New World”, continues the season’s theme of celebrating the birth of the nation 250 years ago with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The concert reflects on the themes of Americaโ€™s struggles and triumphs as a young nation. Opening with Charles Ivesโ€™ Variations on “America”, the program then shifts to focus on American’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. Aaron Coplandโ€™s Lincoln Portrait, narrated by Art on the Air host Larry Brechner, and modern composer Stella Sungโ€™s Lincolnโ€™s Battle give two perspectives on the great man who led America through the Civil War. Closing the concert will be Dvoล™รกkโ€™s Symphony No. 9, or New World Symphony, which Dvoล™รกk wrote during his brief, but significant time spent in New York City and inspired by African American spirituals and Native American traditions.

Tickets can be purchased by clicking the button below. Adult $26, Senior $23, Students with ID and Children FREE, Seating is general admission, and doors open at 6:00 pm. An instrument petting zoo, sponsored by Quinlan & Fabish, will be available in the lobby during the pre-concert hour. Questions? Call the LCSO office at 219.362.9020.

Livinโ€™ The Lake Life โ€“ LaPorte Indiana

Iโ€™ve always seen Pine Lake and sometimes Stone Lake driving in LaPorte delivering the PanoramaNow Magazines, but Iโ€™ve never really been on the lake until last weekend. It was such a nice experience and such clear water that I was amazed that in 35 years I had never heard nor seen anything about it before. Although we did arrive very early in the morning, the boat launch was quite nice, so I decided to educate some of my readers about these two lakes.

Famous People From LaPorte County Indiana

We just discovered that one PanoramaNOWโ€™s most popular articles was during the Bicentennial when we published โ€œProminent People of La Porte County.โ€ So we thought we would re-visit that topic and expand it.
Many famous people from La Porte County have made significant contributions, not just locally but nationally and internationally. The exhibit was on display at the LaPorte County Museum in 2016.
The photo on the home page was of Michigan City native, Anne Baxter. She is famous for the movie is โ€œThe Ten Commandmentsโ€ where Anne played Nefertiri, and many more appearances.
