The 4 Most Sustainable Transportation Methods

The 4 Most Sustainable Transportation Methods

Although cars are the most prevalent form of transportation in the United States, they’re also incredibly harmful to the environment. With climate change becoming more and more of a global concern, we’ve compiled a list of the four most sustainable transportation methods to help reduce your carbon footprint.

Electric or Hybrid Vehicles

Let’s kick things off with a big caveat: electric and hybrid vehicles aren’t affordable for everyone. While prices are coming down significantly, these cars are still prohibitively expensive for some people. Thankfully, the investment is more than worth it whether you need to save up for a while or you’re doing well enough to make the switch quickly.

Eliminating or reducing gas costs helps to offset the high price tag, and you never know—affordable electric cars might be here very soon.

Public Transportation

While many buses contribute to pollution problems, it’s still better than driving your own car. Think about it: if you get to work in your car, the bus and your car are spewing out exhaust fumes. Switching to public transportation is similar to carpooling, and buses and trains are getting greener all the time!

Bicycles and E-Bikes

Bicycles have been around for over 200 years, and they’re as helpful now as ever before. They’re a great option to get you where you’re going while providing an excellent cardio workout while you’re at it!

If all that effort sounds less than appealing, you can consider upgrading to an electric bike instead.E-bikes have risen drastically in popularity over the last decade, and it’s no wonder why. With speeds up to 30 miles per hour and prices way lower than electric cars, e-bikes offer the best combination of speed and value.

Your Feet

Depending on where you live, walking may be a viable option. If work is a five-minute drive, it’s probably a 20-minute walk! For people hoping to help the environment and lose a little weight, walking 30 minutes a day is an excellent way to jump-start an exercise regimen. On top of that, walking gives you the opportunity to enjoy your town and take in the sights!

Now that you know the four most sustainable transportation methods, reduce pollutants and get to know your area better while doing it!
