Story by Valencia “Mother Diva” Dantzler,
Last weekend Thriller Dance 2300 (Founder & Executive Director Valencia “Mother Diva’ Dantzler ) a non profit organization which provides resources for Gary Indiana families continuing the legacy of Michael J. Jackson and StageCoach Productions (President/CEO Veteran, Cowboy & Buffalo Soldier Tommy O. Penson Jr.) a non profit organization which provides mentorship for at risk youth teaching them horseback riding and resources for Homeless Veterans, teamed up to produce the 1st Annual Halloween Eve Community Giveback Street Brunch in front of 2300 Jackson st. Michael Jackson’s childhood home.
The event celebrated 50 Years of Michael Jackson’s Ben Album, 40 years of Thriller Album, and 35 Years of Bad Album. The organizers gave away free clothing, shoes, household items, including a microwave, Thriller poster, MJ records, gas cards, store cards, baby items, and candy.
The menu was complete with Chicken & Waffles with organic maple syrup and Shrimp & Grits. For the Vegans Kale Salad, Alkaline Water and Beefless Plant Base Italian Beef mini sandwiches were served. Calumet Bakery donated strawberries dipped in both white and dark chocolate. There was even a Wiz Cake and a Thriller Cake. “Gary is a disenfranchised community. What better way to continue Mr. Jackson’s legacy by giving back by treating the residents like the Kings & Queens they are.
These residents pay property taxes and may have large families like the Jacksons and can barely cover their bills. To be able to give them a special quality extravagant brunch is what they deserve. One lady walked up to me crying and said, “this is real maple syrup from a tree”. I just gave her a hug and told her I love you and will treat you good” said Mother Diva.”
“When Ms. Diva called me and asked if StageCoach Productions can partner to help the children, we were happy to get on board. It was an opportunity for me to teach the attendees the history of black cowboys and cowgirls and about the Buffalo Soldiers” said Tommy O. Both Tommy O, The Buffalo Soldiers and Mother Diva participated in Hammond Indiana’s Veterans Appreciation Parade this past Saturday.
StageCoach Productions and Thriller Dance 2300 will be back on 23rd & Jackson for the 2nd Annual 2300 Holiday Toy Drive in December, date is yet to be determined.
