Steel Magnolias Opens at Footlight Players

“STEEL MAGNOLIAS”  is an all-time favorite comedy that will open at Footlight Players September 3rd thru September 12th.

Written by Robert Harling and directed by Janice Rice, with Bryan Redeagle as her Assistant Director, the action is set in a beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana where all the ladies in town go to get their beauty needs taken care of.

Helped by her new assistant, Annelle (Maggie Gowan), who’s not sure if she’s still married, the wise-cracking Truvy (Dee Piotrowski) dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser (Laura Meyer) who is “not crazy, just in a bad mood for 40 years”, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee (Kathy Chase), who has a raging sweet tooth, and the local social leader M’Lynn (Sherry VerWey), whose daughter, Shelby (Isobelle Sebastian), the prettiest girl in town, is about to get married.

This show is filled with hilarious repartee and humorously acerbic verbal collisions as well as heartfelt emotions towards the end of the play. You will leave with a feeling as if you know these ladies.

Rice has a strong cast to carry off these 6 ladies personalities, and a talented crew to take care of the technical aspect of the show which include Declan Rice, Tony and Michael Thomas, Chris and Lara West, Joy Davidson, Jim Milcarek and Sharon Kienitz.
This comedy will certainly have sell-out houses, so reservations are strongly suggested. There is no assigned seating, so come early to get a good spot. The show is performed at The Footlight Players Theater at 1705 Franklin Street in the heart of Michigan City starting on Friday September 3rd and running through the 5th and the following week on Thursday September 9 through the 12th. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows are at 7:30 with a 2:00 matinee on Sundays.

Ticket prices are $15.00, $10.00 for children 12 years and under and on Thursday performances. You can make your reservations one of three ways; by telephone (219) 874-4035, in person at the box-office whenever the theater is open, or via the internet (, click the “Reservations” box.
