Company GettingMarried

Sondheim’s Clever Complicated Lyrics make “Company” Special

**** Highly Recommended **** It was a real pleasure to see the Writers Theatre production of “Company”, which might just be my favorite Sondheim musical.  “Company” is basically a series of vignettes dealing with the angst-ridden lives of five married couples and their single friend, Robert (Thom Miller), whom they all secretly envy – which is why all the wives are trying to marry him off!  All that angst, expressed through clever complicated music by a fabulous cast, make for a wonderful night.  I give “Company” 4 Spotlights.

“Company” runs through July 31st at Writers Theatre, 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.  Running time is 2 hours, 30 minutes, with an intermission.  Performances are Tuesdays through Fridays at 7:30 pm (with 3:00 matinees on June 29th & July 13th); Saturdays at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm; and Sundays at 2:00 and 6:00 pm (except July 3rd & 17th).  Tickets range from $25-$80.  Free parking is available at the train station across Green Bay Road (there is a convenient crosswalk).  FYI (847) 242-6000 or www.writerstheatre.org.
