“Second Summer Sunday” Music in Portage Indiana – Sunday, July 10

Portage LIVE!’s monthly Summer Sunday Series continues this Sunday, July 10 from 3 pm to 9 pm with FREE musical performances by the Summertet Brass Quintet and the brand-new Founders Philharmonic Pops Orchestra at the Amphitheatre at Founder’s Park, 2545 Founder’s Parkway, Portage, Indiana. Delicious eats from local food trucks and a beer garden will be available for you to make a day of it!
The July 10 repertoire will include patriotic music, ragtime, Disney tunes, movie music, and more! Including featuring talented vocal performances of “Skyfall” and “Eleanor Rigby” as well as other popular and classical hits!

The afternoon kicks off with a 3 pm performance by the Summertet Brass Quintet. This local (and not so local) brass quintet started with a group of friends in 2013 playing at local hospitals during the holiday season and has since developed an annual free concert to share the yuletide spirit! The quintet includes Cliff Somers (trumpet), Mike Schwuchow (trumpet), Allie Bodza (horn), Aaron Lugo (trombone), and Matt Mudd (tuba). Kristina Greene (trumpet) is a regular guest musician of the group.

Be sure the kids and grandkids are available at 5 pm for the Instrument Petting Zoo sponsored by Quinlan & Fabish Music Company! This exciting opportunity gets folks up close and personal with musical instruments from the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion families. From the piccolo to the tuba, kids AND their grown-ups will be encouraged to touch, hold, and even try a wide variety of instruments. Photos encouraged!

At 7 pm, you’ll thrill to the inaugural performance of the Portage Founders Philharmonic Pops Orchestra under the direction of conductor Benjamin Leonard-White. This 48-piece orchestra will open its concert with Journey’s Greatest Hits followed by a plethora of popular favorites, concluding with the inspiring New World Symphony by Dvorak!

Vote early and often for the leader to wave the silver baton during the Stars and Stipes with your donations by visiting our donation page at https://bit.ly/3NTYGed  If you just can’t decide which of our leaders to support as guest conductor, additional donations to support our mission to make live musical entertainment and cultural events available in Portage may be made by texting PORTAGE to 44321. Portage LIVE! is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as permitted by law.

Mark your calendars now for our last Second Summer Sunday event on August 14 at Founder’s Park: Bands Big and Small, from 3 – 9 pm! This series is made possible with the generous support of the Porter County Community Foundation, Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce, Portage Department of Parks & Recreation, John W. Anderson Foundation, and Quinlan & Fabish Music Company.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the music! Bring the whole family to sing, dance or just listen. For more information, contact Portage Chamber of Commerce 219-762-3300, Portage Parks 219-762-1675, Debra Silvert, publicity chair 219-628-0914 or visit www.portagelive.org
