Grocery stores have forever practiced the marketing strategy of creating “LOST LEADERS” to attract customers to their store. A lost leader is exactly what is says, the store “looses money” on an item in order to “Lead” you into their store. What your money saving strategy should be is to only buy the “lost leaders” and then move on to another store. In addition, stores do have sale items that are worth taking a look at as well. Below are more “money saving” shopping tips.
2022 GROCERY SHOPPING TIPS:
Big Box Stores like Walmart are no longer the lowest price (like it used to be). To save money Shop your Dollar Store First, then Aldis or Save-A-Lot then if you still need something, shop Walmart Last. Also only shop and stock up on what is on sale. Furthermore, most people don’t know that Menards has quite a grocery section with some really low prices on meats and also stocks bulk items as well.
Make a Shopping Chart with pricing and write in prices.
You’d be surprised at the difference in pricing from store to store. Many times an item is overpriced and people buy it anyway, just because it’s convenient to shop one store. To beat this marketing tactic that all stores use, you can make a grocery shopping price chart. Here’s a sample, but you’ll need to draw in vertical lines to write down the pricing at each store. Sounds tedious, but believe me, it will save you hundreds over each month of shopping. Click here for link to grocery shopping savings chart.
Meyers is 35% higher on all items. Even if you have to sacrifice something on your list for that week, it’s worth to buy extras of those items on sale, because you know they will go up. Look for Dated meats that have to be sold, and shop through the week. Shop the sales at the end of the season when stores are clearing out of season items. Shop Christmas during the Summer Sidewalk Sales! The worst day to go to the grocery store is Sunday.
People also don’t realize how much money they spend just on drinks. I’ve seen people with one cart full of just drinks that is valued at hundreds of dollars. Homemade Kool aid was used for drinks and kept in a pitcher in the refrigerator during the last inflation period. And, how about just drinking water, and keeping a pitcher of water in the refrigerator? Water is healthier and better for you. Carbonated drinks are well, they have carbonation in them! You’d be surprised at how much you can save on drinks alone.
People also don’t realize how much money they spend just on snacks. It’s time to change your snacking habits. With a bag of potato chips costing upwards of $5 a bag, you can save money on snacks as well. Here’s some ideas: string cheese, peanut butter and celery, peanut butter on toast, yogurt, raw fruit like oranges, apples and bananas, sweet pea pods, oatmeal, cheese and crackers, peanuts, and I’m sure there are many more. Eating just enough snacks to curb hunger will also save money as well, and keep you healthier.
While some of these might seem extreme to you now, this is what is needed to survive until brighter days arrive.
