Join Maestro Troy Webdell and South Shore Orchestra for a grand scale symphonic concert on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 at Memorial Opera House. Music of Italian composer Ottorino Respighi will showcase his famed epic tone poems The Fountains of Rome and The Pines of Rome. Chaccone for violin and orchestra will be performed by audience favorite, Russian violinist Violetta Todorova! Todorova is the concertmaster of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
Respighi’s Fountains of Rome, a four-movement symphonic poem brimming with color and sparkling musical effects, captures the sounds and impressions of four of Rome’s majestic fountains at different hours of the day. Traveling from dawn to midday to dusk, Fountains of Rome takes listeners on a daylong, picturesque journey where architecture and surrounding landscapes blend seamlessly together in the Eternal City.
Pines of Rome also offers glimpses into Roman life throughout the day. From playful rhythms inspired by children happily spending the afternoon among the pine groves to the mystical and ethereal sounds of the evening hours to a brilliant sunrise on the Appian Way, Pines of Rome masterfully stirs up imagery of a culture with a rich and deep-rooted history.
