Come join the Midwest Sundowners at Rainford Flying Field for a day filled with incredible aerial displays and historic aircraft on Saturday, July 18th from 10am – 3pm. Get up close and personal with vintage war birds from all eras, witness thrilling flyovers, and meet fellow aviation enthusiasts. Military fatigues are encouraged, and all veterans are encouraged to attend. You’ll see and experience the various warbird models and discover their history.
Whether you’re a history buff, a plane fanatic, or just looking for a fun day out, this event is sure to be a blast. Porter County Civil Air Patrol will conduct a color honor guard at 10am to open the event.
The Midwest Sundowners is a model airplane club focusing on radio-controlled aircraft; located in Wheeler, Indiana. Join the Midwest Sundowners at Rainford Flying Field located at 476 N 650 W. Hobart, Indiana 46342, for a day filled with thrilling aerial flights and opportunities to buy, sell and trade RC Airplanes and airplane parts at the swap meet.
Radio control airplanes have never been more affordable, and the reliability of the equipment used today is excellent. At their flying field you will find their well-manicured grass strip as well as a 30 foot wide by 300 foot long Geotextile landing strip. They have an enclosed shelter, a deck that overlooks the flying field and ample charge stations for charging batteries.
Whether you’re a seasoned pilot or just starting out, this event is perfect for all enthusiasts. Watch as skilled pilots showcase their flying skills with their military RC airplanes, and browse through a variety of airplanes at the swap meet. The club has flight instructors and club training planes to help teach you to fly with Flight Simulator available from 11:30 – 12:30. No previous experience is necessary! They also allow drone flying and model rockets flights at their field!

Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 12:30pm (food is available for purchase). Lunch includes a meat cooked on the spot in the grill, chips and dessert. Our trainer will be available for any spectators to try their hand at flying during the lunch break. Ask about when there will be a special demo. There will be a live auction during lunch for a donated Warbird Model – a P-47 Thunderbolt Model.
