For 27 years, Pierogi Fest has delighted attendees with old favorites and lots of new changes, and this year’s festival will once again exceed attendee expectations. Once again, the festival will serve up massive amounts of food, with more than 80 food booths…one of the largest food festivals in the Midwest held in Downtown Whiting! The dates for 2021 are July 23, 24th and 25th, 2021. (Wacky Parade is on Friday.) See Entire Entertainment Schedule below.
This year’s Pierogi Fest changes will feature more benches in grassy areas and more picnic areas.
The Parade, on Friday Night, will have a new route in 2021. It will run along 119th Street through Hammond’s Robertsdale neighborhood from Forsythe Park to Atchison Avenue. It will follow part of the traditional route but end just west of the main entrance, so it won’t interrupt the food vendors set up in downtown Whiting.
There’s always lots of characters each year!! You can look for in the crowds for Mr. Pierogi himself, The Buscias (who have a cooking show), the Pieroguettes featured at the Mr. Pierogi Song Fest Show, Miss Paczki, and the Halupki Guy. Folks enjoy getting their photos taken with them for bragging rights on social media.
The world-famous Beer Garden was previously expanded to accommodate thirsty attendees will have mostly standing areas this year. In addition, the family beer garden is back and will operate during the entire festival and be more accessible for the convenience of families, located at the East end of the Beer Garden.
The past “Wine Garden” located at Center Street has been changed to the Silver Streak Lounge and will feature live music. This area was quite a become a crowd-pleaser, with a more relaxed atmosphere and music than the Beer Garden area tends to be.
What is a festival without the Arts & Crafts Area, located in the area between Temple Court and Clark Streets, in front of the Whiting YMCA (Community Center).
