The virus has cancelled the 168th Lake County Fair, Pierogi Fest, Fourth of July parades and many other special events that make Northwest Indiana summers fun and a destination for hundreds of thousands. Some Places are opening back up as time goes by.

Porter County Compost Sites Open May 4th
The Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District’s compost sites will officially reopen on Monday, May 4th. Porter County residents can drop off yard waste and pick up compost or wood mulch. Non-residents, limitations and fees may apply.

Wicker Park To Open
Wicker Park trails open for distanced recreation, promoting American Red Cross blood drives, delivering food to the elderly and the disabled, and coordinating emergency response and economic recovery efforts for Northwest Indiana. It is Suggested on their website that golf might open on May 4th, so stay tuned!
Porter County Parks To Open
Porter County’s parks are open to visitors, including the trails at Sunset Hill Farm and Brincka Cross Gardens. If you venture out into nature during this time where we’re taking precautions against COVID-19, go out by yourself or with your immediate family.
LaPorte County Parks Open With Restrictions
LaPorte County Parks will remain open, with exceptions. Families can go outside and take a walk, run or bike ride, but they should continue to practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from other people. Additionally, we encourage residents to stay home when sick, cover their coughs and practice good hand hygiene. If enjoying the outdoors, we ask residents to return home immediately if they begin to have symptoms of acute respiratory virus. Trails, basketball courts, tennis courts, ball diamonds and other amenities are closed to groups (use limited to individuals or those within same household).
