Butler thefall

Northlight’s “Butler” is a Fascinating Glimpse of History

**** Highly Recommended **** First of all, “Butler” is not about a servant in the White House or anywhere else.  Actually, the “Butler” in the title is Benjamin Franklin Butler, a Major General in the Union Army during the Civil War.  Playwright Richard Strand took a single line in Butler’s bio and turned it into a fascinating, funny and entertaining play.  Since “Butler” kept my attention riveted on the stage, I give it 4 Spotlights.

“Butler” runs through April 17th at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd, Skokie.  Running time is about 2 hours with an intermission.  Performances are Wednesdays at 1:00 and 7:30 pm; Thursdays at 7:30 pm; Fridays at 8:00 pm; Saturdays at 2:30 and 8:00 pm; and Sundays at 2:30 pm.  Tickets range from $25-$79.  Parking is free.  FYI (847) 673-6300 or www.northlight.org.
