**** Recommended **** “New Country” is a “rags to riches, then turn on the people who got you there” story set in the country music industry. The good ole boys in “New Country” are vulgar and profane. The story is funny, but the biting humor disguises a lot of acerbic truths. “New Country” did make me laugh so I give it 3 ½ Spotlights.
Fair Trade Productions’ “New Country” runs through May 14th at the Den Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. Running time is 90 minutes, no intermission. Performances are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm; Saturdays at 4:30 and 7:30; and Sundays at 6:00. Tickets range from $38-$45. Street parking is difficult to find in the Wicker Park neighborhood, so it is recommended that patrons pay in advance to use the Den’s parking lot at 1215 N. Paulina.
