Livin’ The Lake Life – LaPorte Indiana

I’ve always seen Pine Lake and sometimes Stone Lake driving in LaPorte delivering the PanoramaNow Magazines, but I’ve never really been on the lake until last weekend. It was such a nice experience and such clear water that I was amazed that in 35 years I had never heard nor seen anything about it before. Although we did arrive very early in the morning, the boat launch was quite nice, so I decided to educate some of my readers about these two lakes.

Watch Our Video that Shows Pine Lake and Stone Lake

Pine Lake and Stone Lake allows patrons to enjoy water skiing, tubing, fishing, boating, pontoon, canoeing, paddle boarding and kayaking – complete with rentals. In addition to boating and hiking if you’re a biker, there are cycling trails within the LaPorte Parks system around Pine Lake and Stone Lake. There is something here to satisfy the weary soul. Pine Lake is home to the second beach, usually called Ski Beach, is located at the south end of the 149-acre Lake on Waverly Road., which has  picnic tables and a narrow beach, with a sandy bottom for wading.

Stone lake is more shallow and more weedy where motor boats are not allowed any speed higher than idle speed. This makes excellent conditions for fishing, swimming, paddle boats, kayaks, play grounds and canoes. Stone Lake is 149 acres of water located in Soldiers Memorial Park (556 acres) in LaPorte. The new Stone Beach is open for public swimming and recreation, complete with a beach house with restrooms and a concession stand and is located on 250 Pine Lake Ave. Lifeguards are on duty from 10:30 am to 4 pm daily from Memorial Day to the opening of the school fall session. A playground, picnic area with grills and outdoor showers are also provided. Hiking Trails bisect the areas. Stone Lake has small mouth bass, large mouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, redear sunfish, walleye and a number of less desirable fish such as bullhead and carp.

Pine Lake has 543 surface acres and allows for higher speed boats and is excellent for pontoon boats, high speed boats, water skiing or tubing.  One has to travel through Stone Lake with no-wake restriction and travel under the tunnel to get to Pine lake.
After my visit, I thought it would be nice to tell our readers about the places that rent out boating options:

Pine Lake Rentals – is LaPorte County’s new pontoon and kayak rentals. Enjoy nature’s elements around Pine Lake for any or no occasion at all. They are at the docks behind  The Blue Heron at 1110Lakeside Street, Laporte, and can be reached by calling 219-370-3836. They rent out pontoons, kayaks, and tandem kayaks. Boat rentals are $240 a day.
Pine Lake Marina – They rent out 10 person capacity pontoon boats. They are located at 908 Pine Lake Ave, on the lake and open 10am – 6pm. And they can be reached by calling 219-649-1136.  Boat rentals are $225 a half day and $350 a full day.
Huber’s Marine –  Pontoon Boat Rentals, with boat launch at 350 Waverly Road, 326-2605.
We could not find any other rental options available, but there may be some we have never heard of, just like we hadn’t heard about Pine and Stone Lake!
