119th Street Artists™ Mission Statement |
The 119th Street Artists™ is a non-profit organization of artists, craftspeople, and art patrons that seeks to transform lives by creating an extraordinary experience through art.The goal of the 119th Street Artists™ is to bring an appreciation of the fine arts to people in all walks of life and to provide support and encouragement to local artists. Members have donated much of their time, talents, and works of art to benefit the community. Artists offer classes throughout the area, giving free demonstrations at local schools and serve as judges for art shows that are sponsored by schools and benevolent organizations. 119th Street Artists provides an informal atmosphere suitable for artists to meet, learn, work and display their creations. Though we are located in Whiting, we invite all artists in NW Indiana to become members. Kathy Winsberg was the motivating force behind 119th Street Artists. When she opened her store, Full Circle Art, quite a few of her patrons expressed an interest in the arts and would tell her about what kind of work they produce. The interest was there to make a club for these local artists, and in 1996 they made it official. The group was called 119th Street Artists, after the main street in downtown Whiting. Currently 119th Street Artists has their own gallery space, called CornerStone Art Center, which is provided by Centier Bank. The gallery itself is located on the ground floor, and there is space above for classes, workshops, and meetings. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact us.
