—Shirley Heinze Land Trust invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 30 at Ivanhoe South Nature Preserve, located at 750 Colfax St, Gary, IN 46406.
This ceremony will celebrate the many partners and funders who contributed to the project. Attendees will see the new pavilion, parking area and boardwalks, as well as the sidewalk connecting West Side Leadership Academy to Ivanhoe South Nature Preserve for ongoing educational purposes.
“We are grateful for everyone who made this project possible, including Northwest Indiana Forum’s Ignite the Region Strategy and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development (READI) grant, Legacy Foundation’s John S. and James L. Knight Donor Advised Fund, and the American Water Charitable Foundation,” said Kris Krouse, Executive Director of Shirley Heinze Land Trust.
“Students at West Side Leadership Academy will have opportunities to experience their education in new and creative ways for additional enrichment. We’re also excited to provide community members with an improved way to experience this globally rare dune and swale habitat right here in their hometown.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the new pavilion. Attendees are encouraged to use extreme caution when crossing Colfax Road to access Ivanhoe South Nature Preserve.
Parking, refreshments, and water will be available. For more information, contact Deputy Director Bridget Harrison at (219) 242-8558 or bharrison@heinzetrust.org.
