Don’t Let Your Gas Tank Go Below Half
It’s completely fine to let the car go below half a tank, right? No! It’s bad. If you let the gas tank go below the halfway mark, your gas lines could freeze. When you have at least half a tank of gas, you also preserve a heat source to use in case your car breaks down unexpectedly. So plan to get gas before you leave for the trip. Also, don’t drive too much the night before.
Pack the Right Clothes
While it’s great to bring shorts when your destination is warm, you also need to remember you’re driving in the winter. And you’re going to look silly driving around in a pair of shorts and a short-sleeved top. You should also leave the sandals in your suitcase.
Unless you’re already near a warmer area, avoid dressing like it’s 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Pack the essentials instead, such as gloves, a hat, a scarf, boots, socks, and a high-quality coat. These things will help you stay warm between meal stops, supply runs, and hotel stays.
Remain in Your Car in Extreme Snow
Remain calm if you find yourself stranded in the middle of the road in a snowstorm. Most importantly, don’t leave your vehicle. Instead, pull over, call roadside assistance, and let them know you’re stranded. The same goes if your car breaks down.
When you remain in the car, emergency workers can easily find you and bring you to safety. If you need a better way for rescuers to see you, stick a brightly colored cloth onto your door handle. Keep a flashlight with you in case you get stranded at night.
