The Towle Theater is pleased to present the musical Fun Home by Lisa Kron, Jeanine Tesori & Alison Bechdel in July. The show is be directed by Towle Theater Managing Director, Jeff Casey and Musical Direction by resident Music and Vocal Director, Elizabeth Tuazon.
Fun Home won the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score & Best Book of a Musical. Other awards were Best Musical – New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Off-Broadway Alliance Award and finalist Pulitzer Prize for Drama. With that success, it is no wonder that the Towle Theater has decided to produce Fun Home in their 15th season.
The musical is based on the autobiography of graphic novelist, Alison Bechdel. When her father dies unexpectedly, Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.
The Towle Theater welcomes Meghan Hoyt as Alison (St. John), Nicole Baker as Medium Alison (Chicago), Stella Hoyt as Small Alison (St. John), Heather Clark as Alison’s mother Helen (Valparaiso), Gino Generelli as Alison’s father Bruce (Chicago), Lewis Rawlinson as multiple characters (Chicago), Rebecca Buechel as Joan (Chicago), Jack Lopez as Alison’s brother Christian (St. John), and Derek Diehl as Alison’s brother John (Steger, IL).
