Friendship Botanic Gardens

Friendship Botanic Gardens has undergone a spectacular revitalization in recent years, with the addition of countless new garden plots and a growing roster of public events and programming designed to reintroduce the world to the magic of the Gardens.
Friendship Botanic Gardens is a historic 105 acre garden park tucked in the majestic old-growth forests surrounding Trail Creek.
Friendship Botanic Gardens is a place where forested woodlands, sprawling open spaces, and cultivated gardens spill over 100 acres of land that have been a tourist destination since 1936. Gardens are tucked throughout the beautiful valley of Trail Creek. Pets on a leash are always welcome.
“Over 25,000 people experienced the Gardens in 2017” said Ron Taylor, Friendship Botanic Gardens Communications Director. “And we’re looking forward to hosting well over 35,000 visitors for our 2018 season. It’s all part of a ambitious effort on behalf of our new Board of Directors to grow the Gardens into the kind of community destination point that can drive the growth of Northwest Indiana.”

New additions to the Friendship Botanic Gardens grounds include the ArcelorMittal Children’s Garden, an arena for nature based play activities created thanks to the support of the ArcelorMittal corporation.

Friendship Gardens is located just East of Blue Chip Casino and a short distance from the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan.

Easter Success –

Surprised by massive crowds on Easter Sunday, Friendship Botanic Gardens was ready with 10,000 Easter Eggs! Held on Easter Sunday, it just happened to be the ONLY Public Easter Egg Hunt in Northwest Indiana.  Families from across the region hunted for over 10,000 eggs hidden throughout the newly revitalized grounds. Over 1,200 people braved the chilly weather and packed into the Gardens for an afternoon of Easter fun featuring free photos with the Easter Bunny and a live rabbit.
The event was hosted by a dedicated group of volunteers that continue to offer FREE family and educational events throughout the year. Visit the Friendship Botanic Gardens’ website at for more information about all the momentous garden experiences scheduled this year. Photo by Phil Eichas.
