“Flamingo & Decatur” kept Me Laughing!

**** Recommended **** Glitzy, glamorous Las Vegas billed itself as the city that never sleeps, but most residents – who actually do sleep – live far from the glittery Strip. In Block St Theatre’s “Flamingo & Decatur”, playwright Todd Taylor has written a very funny, yet sort of poignant, story about two hapless gamblers who’ve found a unique way to survive in Las Vegas. Kudos to the cast, their timing and delivery were spot on. “Flamingo & Decatur” made me laugh out loud. 3 ½ Spotlights

By the way, Block St Theatre Company is not a Chicago company; they are actually based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, home of the University of Arkansas. It seems that they brought their world premiere play to Theater Wit because of our wonderful, informed Chicago audiences.

“Flaming & Decatur” runs through February 18th at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Parking is available for a fee in Theater Wit’s lot behind the restaurant across the street. Valet parking is also available on weekends. Running time is about 2 hours with an intermission. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm; Sundays at 2:00 and 7:00 pm. Tickets range from $23-$33. FYI (773) 975-8150 or www.theaterwit.org.
