First Annual Spring Garden Show

garden show porter county 2016LaPorte County Master Gardeners Spring Garden Show titled “Think, Eat, Live Green” will feature keynote speakers, seminars and demonstrations, a gardening series for children, garden and food vendors plus door prizes and raffles. The event will be held on Saturday, March 19th, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Michigan City High School. It promises to be a fun and informative day for the whole family.

Speakers include: Dawn Pape: “The Lawn Chair Gardener;” Steve Sass: President of the Northern Indiana Chapter of INPAWS; Victoria Jostes: Master Gardener and Master Naturalst; and Chef Brad Hindsley: Spire Farm-to-Fork Restaurant.

A variety of local vendors will feature handcrafted items. Food and beverages provided by Spire Farm-to-Fork Catering and Purdue Extension La Porte County – Homespun Harmony Extension Homemakers. Raffles throughout the day. Gift bags for paid attendees (first come, first served).

Over 15 Breakout Sessions including: Natives and Wetlands; Monarch Butterflies; Honey Bees; Succulents; Pruning 101; Backyard Chickens; Vertical Gardening; Bonsai for Beginners & Enthusiasts and Herbs and More.
And there’s plenty for The Kids: Children under 12 are admitted free, and can attend workshops when accompanied by an adult.  Children under 12 are admitted free, and can attend workshops when accompanied by an adult. Workshops include: Vermicomposting, Fairy (or Dinosaur) Gardens, Backyard Arachnology, a Puppet Show and more.

The cost for this event is only $10 per person payable at the door and children under 12 are free. Michigan City High School is located at 8466 West Pahs Rd, Michigan City, IN, close to Exit 34 on I-94 at US 421.
