Festivals in Indiana: The List of Unmissable Events in the Circle City

All in all, there are more than 500 festivals in Indiana that are visited by thousands of locals and tourists yearly. The Circle City is a real Mecca for travelers with its numerous art exhibits, sports competitions, dining events, music festivals, and theater performances.

1.      Carmel Festival

The Caramel Festival is held every year on the US Independence Day. Visitors are welcome to enjoy diverse types of entertainment and activities during the 3rd and the 4th of July in Carmel, Hamilton County, Indiana. There is always much to do at the festival:

The automobile race is held annually on the last weekend of May. The contest takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval circuit 2.5 miles long. 3.      Devour Indy

Devour Indy is organized twice a year – in winter and in summer. During two weeks of dining fest, you’ll be able to try the authentic and signature dishes of professional chefs.

The special offers of the fest include:

  • special attractions, like Indy Brew Bus or Indy Eleven Game.

4.      Strawberry Festival

The main idea of the Strawberry Festival is to raise money for charity. The festival is held in June – during the time of the strawberry harvest – in Indianapolis, IN. A wide range of desserts with berries and fruits are cooked by parishioners and volunteers of Cathedral Women of Christ Church Cathedral. The main treat of the festival is shortcakes piled with strawberries, whipped cream, and ice cream. Approximately 20, 000 homemade cakes are baked and sold during the event. Each year volunteers gather $60,000 to $70,000 as non-for-profits grants. The charity soiree is accompanied by the live performance of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and jazz ensembles.

5.      Broad Ripple Art Fair

Over 200 artists and craftsmen offer their works for sale at Broad Ripple Art Fair. The event is arranged based on the Indianapolis Art Center. Come here to buy a new piece of art for your collection or purchase a unique handmade gift. An approximate list of to-do-things for the Broad Ripple Art Fair might look like this:

The donation-based education yoga classes are held for kids and adults. Every person can join the event regardless of the degree of yoga skill. First-timers are welcome to visit mini-classes held by skilled teachers. Newcomers will have a chance to master the fundamentals of mind and body practice to build strength and flexibility. Seasoned pros are invited to share their experience as volunteer teachers. All attendees can buy yoga-related products and services at Vendor Village.

7.      Bands of America

Bands America is a spectacular music marching band championship held in Indianapolis, IN. More than 100 high school bands from 20 states gather at Lucas Oil Stadium to show their talent and compete with other participants. Gifted competitors from across America showcase music and choreography performances and fight for the grand prize of the contest.

8.      Circle of Lights

The Indianapolis calendar of events is concluded by the Circle of Lights – one of the most awaited and beloved city attractions. Families with kids gather near the Soldiers and Sailors Monument to witness the most amazing lighting ceremony. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, the downtown of the Circle City is illuminated with festive lights décor. A special ACS coloring contest is organized before the event.

Children show their creativity by coloring a picture prepared by the organizers. The kid whose work gets the majority of votes from the penal is selected to ‘flip the switch’ at the Circle of Lights ceremony. Many Hoosiers participate in the fun-filled festivity, where they can enjoy the magic of colorfully lit Indy Downtown, listen to musicians and entertainers, buy street food and beverages offered by special holiday pop-ups, and feel the unforgettable atmosphere of festive Indianapolis’ urban core.
