Ranger-led History Hikes offered at National Park
There will be Chellberg Farm Open Houses every Sunday In November, 2023 from 1pm – 3pm. Look for ranger – led hikes at Indiana Dunes National Park for a hike exploring the Bailly Homestead and Cemetery along with the Chellberg Farm.
Dune Ridge Trail Autumn Hikes offered at National Park
Join a ranger for a hike on the Indiana Dunes National Park’s Dune Ridge Trail on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Enjoy the sweeping views of the Great Marsh from the top of the dune ridge and admire the leaves as they transition to their fall colors.
There will be a Great Marsh Hike on Saturday, Nov. 18th, 2023 from 1:30 – 3pm. Join a ranger for a hike through this remnant of a great wetland that once span along the southern coast of Lake Michigan. This beautiful marsh is also a crucial resting place for migrating birds. Passes are required.
Enjoy a Cowles Bog Hike on Sunday, Nov. 19th, 2023 from 12:30 – 3pm. Join a ranger for a hike through multiple different ecosystems that demonstrate the parks remarkable biodiversity. Arrive early and be prepared to park in auxiliary parking at the National Park Headquarters at 1100 N Mineral Springs Rd, Chesterton, IN 46304. Then use the Porter Brickyard trail to access Cowles Bog’s southern trail head. (Approximately 15 min walk.)
The Black Friday Opt Outside Hike will be held on Friday, Nov. 24th from 1pm – 4pm. Join a ranger for a post-Thanksgiving hike instead of shopping on black Friday. Co-sponsored by Save the Dunes, the interactive hike will be led by regional experts in fields such as birding, botany, insects, geology, and ecology.

Enjoy the Turkey Trot Hike on Saturday, Nov. 25th, 2023 from 1pm – 3pm. Join a ranger in search of wild turkey and other wildlife as you work off Thanksgiving dinner. Hike along the ancient Calumet shoreline of Lake Michigan through forested dunes and small blowouts. Meet at the Calumet Dunes Trail parking lot located on 300E (Kemil Road), just off of U.S. Highway 12 near Beverly Shores. This is the former site of the visitor center and the current home of the USGS regional office. The Kemil Beach parking lot is located one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 on East State Park Road (300E).

The national park began charging its entrance fee on March 31, 2022. The fee is $25 per car for a 1–7-day pass. A $45 annual pass for the Indiana Dunes National Park is also available. Holders of the following federal passes will not pay an entrance fee: Annual, Senior, Veterans/Military/Gold Star Family, 4th Grade, Access (disability), and the Volunteer Passes. Please purchase passes or pay entrance fees at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center or at www.recreation.gov/sitepass/indu. When parking, display pass or receipt on the rearview mirror or dashboard.
