Join us for the only event of its kind in the country. Community Civility Counts will hold its 6th annual World Civility Day events on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. A full-day of civility-themed activities and an awards dinner in the evening will be held at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center and Avalon Manor in Merrillville.

Community Civility Counts started as an initiative of the Gary Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee and it has expanded to include many partners both locally and nationally. It was launched in 2015 at a press conference held in the Gary Chamber board room.

All five of the World Civility Day events, have sold out with at least 300 people from Indiana, Illinois and nine other states and 15 countries. Some of the most notable past keynote speakers have been: Ambassador Dr. Clyde Rivers, iChange Nations, Dr. Carolyn Lukensmeyer, Executive Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, U.S. Congressman Frank J. Mrvan, Senator Todd Young, Senator Mike Braun, and Karrah Herring Chief Equity, Inclusion & Opportunity Official for the State of Indiana at the evening awards ceremony.

World Civility Day on April 27, 2022 will include a kickoff, workshops and lunch at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center. Workshop themes will include civility in our day to day interactions, the classroom and workplace civility. The evening dinner, held at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville, will include our featured keynote speaker and the annual Community Civility Counts awards.
