Join a ranger on a hike at Cowles Bog celebrating the diversity of trees in Indiana Dunes National Park on Saturday, November 6 from 1 pm – 3 pm. This hike is free and meets at the Cowles Bog north parking lot located just before the entrance to the Town of Dune Acres.
Over one hundred years ago, Dr. Henry Chandler Cowles studied what is now Indiana Dunes National Park. Cowles Bog is named in honor of his work on plant succession and in the development of the science of ecology. Cowles’ studies noted the factors important for plant life, like trees, to survive. Today’s hike will help visitors learn about the great diversity of trees living in the national park and the part they play in changing the very landscape of the dunes.
The Cowles Bog north parking lot is 1450 North Mineral Springs Road, Dune Acres, Indiana. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Park, call 219-395-1821 or check the park’s website at www.nps.gov/indu for more information.
