Komendera will present an evening of memorable tunes from some of your favorite movies and musical theater on Friday, June 29th at 7:30 pm. The Michigan City Community Chorus will open the evening with a selection of tunes that will range from the “Golden Days of Hollywood” to present day. This wonderful chorus has been in existence for 35 years and Lee Meyer has been the director for 27 years. The Chorus usually rehearses every Thursday night from 5:00 until 6:30 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Their annual Spring Concert was held on Wednesday, June 6th at the church’s assembly hall Their members are Mary Barr, Deborah Beien, Howard Brenneman, Dee Edgecomb, Bob Garner, Barb Herzinger, Dan McNabb, Dan Nieding, Phyllis Nowatzke, Sheila Pollock, Pat Potratz, Dale Schultz, Jeanne Tieken, Deb Topolski, Linda Weeks, and Carrie Zerbe.

Vocalists that will be doing double duty for this concert are Emma and Joe Blanchard, Kathy Chase, Diana Hirsch, Bobby Komendera, Tom LeDonne, Marsha Markle, Lee and Laura Meyer, all who are members of both choral groups.

Act II will feature the Footnotes accompanied by Lee Meyer. Their program will aptly consist of show tunes. THE KING & I, HELLO DOLLY, CHICAGO, and LES MISERABLES will be some of the shows featured. Other members are Candace Archer, Karen Arden, Debbie and Gary Bartholomew, Emil Cripe, Joy Davidson, JoAnne Gilly, Christine Long, Kristina Moore, Erin Mallon, Linda Pickens, Linda Renicker, Jan Rice, Jane Ryszka, and Randy Shermerhorn. The Footnotes began in 1999 and Robert Komendera has been involved with the group since its beginning and has directed them for the last 14 years. The group has performed with the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra and was LaPorte County’s representative at the State of Indiana’s Visitor and Convention Bureau Statewide Conference held in Indianapolis. They are annually part of the holiday festivities, seen around the city in their Victorian carolers outfits.

This amazing concert will conclude with a medley of songs from The PHANTOM OF THE OPERA performed by both groups coming together to form one choir.  Be sure not to miss this historical event and a delightful evening of music that you will remember and will want to sing along, with some of the most talented vocalists in our area.
