The Towle Theater opens its 15th Anniversary Season with the Chicagoland premiere of the outrageous comedy Pageant Play by Mark Setlock & Matthew Wilkas. Shows like Honey Boo Boo, Toddlers and Tiaras and movies such as Little Miss Sunshine shine a light on the world of child pageants. Pageant Play is no different. Welcome to the hilarious, terrifying and surreal world of child beauty pageants. Pinky Corningfield will do anything to make sure her little angel wins the ultimate title, Supreme Queen. When Marge, a newcomer to the pageant circuit, shows up and starts grabbing all the glory, Pinky and her minions, Bob and Bobby, use some unorthodox methods in order to ensure her darling, Chevrolet, is victorious. Glitz. Glamour. Kidnapping. Money. Really, really small false teeth.
The show had its world premiere in Massachusetts in 2008. TheatreMania.com called it “Hilarious…a crowd pleaser”, The Boston Globe said “Really, really funny…hilarious (and) also about something real”. CurtainUp wrote “A lot of silly fun.”
The Towle welcomes back Jerico Bleu (Chicago) & Lauren Knutson (Chicago) who were last seen in Perfect Wedding. Newcomers to the Towle’s stage include Mary Collie (Berwyn, IL) and Rob Ibanez (Willowbrook, IL).
