“Next to Normal”
Book & Lyrics by Brian Yorkey
Lyrics by Tom Kitt
Director Mike Glorioso
Assisted by Ashleigh Happer
Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal. Traumatized by the death of her infant son from an undiagnosed intestinal obstruction, Diana has lived with bipolar depressive disorder and delusional episodes for the past seventeen years. The illness has affected everyone in her life and has nearly torn her family apart on several occasions. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy and heart.
