Join a Student Conservation Association intern on Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Mount Baldy to enjoy a spectacular view of the fall colors and learn about the Earth processes that led to the formation of these beautiful dunes. The hike takes place on Sunday, October 23rd, from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. It is free, but reservations are required. Call the visitor center’s information number at 219-395-1882 to reserve a spot on this tour.
This program meets at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center. After a brief introduction, participants will follow the intern to the Mount Baldy parking lot. During the 1 ½ hour hike, the ranger will guide groups to a high point on the windward slope of the dune that and then to a location on the brink of the dune for a great view of the fall colors and a discussion of dune succession. The hike will use a trail on the western and southern edge of the dune that has been determined to be safe.
