Are you ready for the PARTY of the Year!? ALL AGES VOTE! ALL AGES LOVE HOOSIER STAR! Get ready for the party of the year with food, drinks, friends, and the audience voting for the winners! Hoosier STAR is Indiana’s Premier Vocal Competition where the audience votes to crown the next Youth and Adult Hoosier STAR!
The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, proudly presents the 17 th annual HOOSIER STAR competition on Saturday, September 17, 2022; 7:00 PM, at the Civic Auditorium in La Porte. Ten finalists will be competing for the title of HOOSIER STAR after winning a preliminary round this past March. HOOSIER STAR is divided into two categories: YOUTH – 17 and under and ADULT – 18 and older.
Our very own Dr. Carolyn Watson will be at the helm leading the orchestra as they accompany our contestants. Grammy nominated Music Director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Alastair Willis, will still be joining us again for Hoosier STAR 2022, though with a bit of a twist: Willis is returning as a Celebrity Judge! Willis has guest conducted many orchestras around the world in addition to his position in South Bend, including the Chicago Symphony, Orquestra Sinfonica de Rio de Janeiro, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchestra Berlin, the Silk Road Ensemble (with Yo-Yo Ma) among others.
Also joining us this year as a Celebrity Judge is Lou Voelker, partner at the Indiana law firm Eichhorn & Eichhorn by day and is a member of the popular music group Cripple Creek by night. He was a member of the Purdue University Varsity Glee Club and was even named to its Hall of Fame!
Our final Celebrity Judge for Hoosier STAR 2022 is known locally for her performances in musical theatre and has been part of the Hoosier STAR team on several occasions as an Audition Judge: Greta Stirling Friedman. In addition to her Superior Court Judge duties, Friedman is very active in the local theater scene. One of her favorite theatre roles was that of Peter in “Peter Pan,” where she was able to share the stage with her two children and gain a unique perspective of singing while soaring through the air!
10 finalists compete, in their division, for the title of 2022 Hoosier Star. The Adult winner receives $1,000. The Youth winner receives $500. Each finalist will sing a song of their choice with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Alastair Willis. “I am thrilled to be back collaborating with the LCSO and fantastic state-wide talent for this year’s Hoosier Star!,” stated Maestro Willis.
The 2022 Hoosier Star competition is made possible with generous support from Horizon Bank, NIPSCO, La Porte Hospital and V. Michael and Cherri Drayton.
