Join a park ranger for a hike through Indiana Dunes National Park’s exceptional Miller Woods on Sundays in January from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The hike follows the Paul H. Douglas Trail and is spectacular in its varied habitats including globally rare black oak savanna, interdunal ponds, wetlands, and towering sand dunes that offer incredible views of Lake Michigan and Chicago. The hike could be as long as three miles with a stop at the lakefront. Meet at the Paul H. Douglas Center, wear sturdy shoes and bring drinking water. On warmer winter days, you may want to bring insect repellent to keep away ticks.
The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national park at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary.
